Why you should book a second wedding photographer for your special day

Booking a second wedding photographer

In this blog post, I’m going to be delving into why you should book a second wedding photographer for your special day.

This question pops up in a lot of client consultations and I thought I would give an insight as to why having a second ‘tog is a good idea. (Also known as: second shooter)

Second perspective

Having a second perspective on your wedding day is never a bad idea. You won’t have to worry about who’s prep images you’d rather have captured and you’ll have extra shots throughout the ceremony, reception and rest of the day. I will always pick a second shooter who has a similar style to me so that your images will look consistent throughout your wedding gallery.

Another pair of hands

For me, having another pair of hands is SO helpful on a wedding day. The day itself can be a bit stressful for us memory makers, so having someone else there to help take the stress away can be a god send. Someone there to help me carry bags, getting stuff out of my car when I’m shooting, helping to organise group shots and grabbing me a quick drink when I need to hydrate are all super important things (aside from photographing your day!)

I can’t be in two places at once

I don’t believe they’ve mastered human cloning yet (not that I’d be able to afford it) so unfortunately I can’t be in two places at once. This is something important to consider when creating your wedding timeline. I was particularly grateful for a second shooter I had a few years back as the timeline I had been given didn’t give me enough time to shoot everything myself. I had about an hour to shoot couple portraits, group shots, guest candids and room details. In this instance, I focussed on the couple portraits and group shots, while my second focused on guest candids and room details. Dream team.

More images

If I’ve got another pair of hands, offering another perspective, capturing different moments to me, then you can bet that you’ll have more images delivered in your gallery. I don’t give an exact number of deliverables because each wedding is different but if you’ve booked a second shooter then you will receive more than just my images.

Other benefits of having a second wedding photographer

If you’re still wondering if a second wedding photographer would be beneficial at your wedding then stick around because I’ve got some useful info for you to know.

If your wedding has lots going on, i.e. multiple venues, amusements and other cool shit, it’s probably worth having twice as many people capture your special day. Equally, if you’ve got lots of guests coming like over 100, I’d recommend having another tog come along if you want a varied wedding gallery with lots of guest candids in it.

Now I don’t want you to fret about booking ANOTHER wedding photographer, because this is my job! If you book me as your primary wedding photographer and request a second, I will call upon my wedding supplier network and find a suitable candidate to shoot alongside me. They will be working under my business and uphold the same values and style of shooting as me. They are usually people I’ve worked with before so we have an excellent working relationship!
